About Solid Rock Food Closet of Sparta:

The Alleghany County Ministerium is an ecumenical organization of representatives from area churches in Alleghany County and Sparta. Our vision is to create a viable and active ecumenical faith community within Alleghany County and Sparta where congregations cross denominational and theological barriers to work together for the common good of Alleghany County.  This ministry assists those who are of low income and other mitigating circumstances with food assistance.

In June of 2004, The Solid Rock Food Closet continued the work of the Crisis Food Closet which began at the First Baptist Church of Sparta. During that year, a total of 2,915 clients were served. With growth each year; in 2009 it served over 1,000 people a month, approximately 10% of our county’s population.
